What does a website relaunch cost in 2026?
The short answer: anywhere between a few hundred and tens of thousands of euros – depending on how much is reinvented. This article shows you the usual price ranges, which line items are behind them, and how to spot a quote that doesn't match your needs.
Typical price ranges in the German market
Important note: the ranges below are based on quotes commonly seen in the German market, not on our own survey. They are guide figures, not statistics.
- DIY website builder: only subscription costs, but your own time – often 20 to 60 hours
- Freelancer, manageable company site: usually mid three-figure to low four-figure range
- Smaller agency with a concept phase: often four to five figures
- Larger agency with strategy, photoshoot and CMS build: five figures
- Thundersite: refresh from €100, relaunch from €490 at a fixed price
What actually drives the price
Design is rarely the most expensive part. A relaunch gets expensive through coordination, special features and content.
- Number of subpages and how individually each one is built
- Copy: supply it yourself or have it written – a major cost factor
- Images: your own photos, stock material, or a photoshoot
- Features: shop, booking, login, multiple languages, integrations
- Rounds of revisions – every extra round costs hours
- Ongoing costs: domain, hosting, maintenance, updates
Relaunch or refresh – the cheaper decision
If your site's structure and technology are fundamentally sound, a refresh is often enough: new look, clearer structure, faster load time. If the foundation is outdated, repairing becomes more expensive than rebuilding – you end up paying twice.
A simple check: can your site be used comfortably on mobile and loaded in under three seconds? If yes, a refresh is usually enough. If no, plan for a relaunch.
How to spot a bad quote
- No fixed price and no upper limit, just an hourly rate
- Guaranteed number-one rankings – nobody can promise that
- You get no access to your domain, hosting or content
- Long contract terms for maintenance that only covers updates
- No statement on load time, mobile usability or data protection
How to lower the price yourself
- Gather content beforehand: copy, logo, images, services, prices
- Limit the number of pages – five good pages beat fifteen half-finished ones
- Skip special features until the need is proven
- Name one decision-maker; that saves rounds of coordination
- Define your goal: more enquiries, more calls or more applications
